Getting into Sri Lanka is mostly by air, with flights from many major international airports around the world. Flying is the fastest and easiest way for travelers getting into Sri Lanka to reach the island.

A ferry from Nagapattinam (India) to Kankesanthurai (Sri Lanka) is expected to run in 2026. It usually operates three to six days a week, but the schedule can change because of weather or seasonal demand, so check before you travel.

Visa-Free Expansion 

• From January 2026, Sri Lanka expanded its visa-free entry scheme to include 40 countries.
• Citizens of the UK, US, Canada, Australia, and many EU countries can get a free Sri Lanka ETA for short stays.

• The main international airport is Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) (also known as Colombo International Airport or Katunayake International Airport).
• Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (HRI)—Operates seasonal flights and charter services.

• Cheapest Month: February 2026 remains one of the most affordable months for flights to Sri Lanka following the peak holiday season.
• Official Warnings: Only use eta.gov.lk for visa applications. Be wary of third-party sites charging “service fees” for the free ETA.
